Eleva 300X or 500X? Room rating, sensor channels and carbon options
The Eleva 300X and 500X use Levoit's separated particle and carbon filters, app control and AirSight particle sensing, but they are not two sizes of the same room rating. Start with the rate you actually want. The 300X is listed for 250 square feet at 4.8 air changes per hour (ACH); the 500X is listed for 467 square feet at that same rate. Their much larger 1-ACH headlines are slower turnover, not alternate fast-room capacities.
Room area decides the first fork
At their published 4.8-ACH boundaries, the 300X's CADR is 161 CFM for smoke, dust and pollen, while the 500X's smoke CADR is 301 CFM. The 300X suits a smaller bedroom, office or similarly enclosed room. The larger 500X is the better starting comparison when a room's repeated-turnover requirement exceeds 250 square feet but stays within its 467-square-foot rating. Do not use either one-change-per-hour number to claim that a large open-plan space will receive bedroom-like cleaning speed.
The 300X is 9.4 inches square and 15.1 inches high; the 500X is 11.4 inches square and 21.7 inches high. Both manuals ask for 15 inches of clearance on every side, so clearance can exceed the cabinet footprint. Weight is not a reliable discriminator from the current primary sources: each product page and linked manual disagree about the machine's weight, so neither model is listed with a settled weight here.
Choose between particle detail and broader sensing
The 300X's display cycles through AQI, PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10. Its three-channel sensor is described for those particle sizes; the product material does not establish TVOC or NO2 readings. The 500X's local display adds NO2 and TVOC, while PM1.0 is an app value. If local fine-particle readings are enough, the 300X gives you them without moving up to the 500X. If a documented TVOC or NO2 sensor is essential, the 500X is the relevant Eleva choice, but a reading still is not a diagnosis of a compound or its source.
Both machines have local fan and sleep controls, display-off/lock functions, Auto Mode and a Turbo speed. Both connect through VeSync for remote controls, reports and filter tracking; setup needs an account, Bluetooth pairing and a secure 2.4-GHz network. App features are optional for local purifier use. Neither purifier should be treated as an automated substitute for an open door, source control or ventilation.
Carbon options are model-specific replacements
Both Eleva pages list Essential, Pet, Smoke & Cooking and Premium carbon replacement profiles, separate from the pre-filter/HEPA assembly. The regular box listing for each purifier contains a generic activated-carbon cartridge, not all four specialty options. Use only a filter marked for the exact Eleva model; do not assume a 300X cartridge fits a 500X because their names match.
The manual gives a general four-to-six-month interval for carbon and 18–24 months for the particle assembly. The 300X's profile pages give some conditional up-to-12-month claims, and Levoit's Eleva 300X Premium bundle page pairs that purifier with one extra Premium Activated Carbon replacement. The offer does not add fan output, change the 300X room rating or create a new sensing channel. Its “Wildfire Protection” name describes the package and odor-focused carbon filter; it is not a separate wildfire-particle test. The 500X Premium product page has different interval wording, so do not transfer the 300X bundle's schedule to the 500X.
A practical choice
Choose 300X when a 250-square-foot 4.8-ACH boundary is enough and the local PM1.0/PM2.5/PM10 readout fits your routine. Choose 500X when the room needs more published output or you want its additional gas-channel indications. For either, allow the full clearance envelope and plan on two independently maintained filters. Levoit's filter-life numbers are conditional manufacturer claims rather than a replacement guarantee for every home. If your room exceeds the larger model's 4.8-ACH area rating, compare a higher-output family instead of extrapolating from the 1-ACH headline.
