Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Do you need particle-sensor Auto mode rather than fixed fan speed?
The exact X5 manual documents an embedded air-quality sensor and Auto mode; a manual-only requirement does not fit.
Explore this need in the finder →Can you accept an X5 offer without confirmed app capability?
The manual says Wi-Fi is optional for X5 versions. Broad control preference fits, but app-essential matching remains unknown and fails.
Explore this need in the finder →Can a strict 55-watt power cap include the X5?
The exact-model manual lists 55 W; a 55-W cap fits, while a 54-W cap does not.
Explore this need in the finder →The Airdog X5 is a large, reusable-collector purifier for a home that can accommodate regular hands-on cleaning. Its current U.S. page describes a white 360-degree unit, particle-sensing Auto, four manual speed levels, Sleep mode and a washable TPA filtration assembly. The model-specific manual identifies KJ300F-X5, the same code as the offer record. It is a more unusual ownership proposition than a sealed disposable-filter purifier: you do not plan around routine HEPA replacements, but you do take the collector parts out, clean them and let them dry fully.

Read the room figures by air-change basis
Airdog's page says the X5 can clean 404 square feet in 15 minutes, 1,600 square feet in 60 minutes, and recommends 404–540 square feet at three to four air changes per hour. Those are not interchangeable numbers: the large 1,600-square-foot figure is a one-change-per-hour claim, while the 15-minute statement is a different rate. The X5 does not have a verified 4.8-ACH area in the sources reviewed here, so it should not be treated as meeting an essential 4.8-ACH finder threshold. The distinction matters in an open-plan room, a high-ceiling space or anywhere you require a specific repeated-cleaning basis rather than a broad coverage headline.
There is another reason to avoid translating these figures into one supposedly exact room score. The page's comparison section gives a 210-CFM maximum CADR and its own room-rate claims; the eight-page X5 manual identifies the exact KJ300F-X5 model but lists 200 CFM and an applicable area of 375 square feet without stating the same rate. I keep the generic CADR and strict same-rate area unknown rather than selecting whichever number looks larger. Use the manufacturer's published numbers as claims with their stated bases, not as a guarantee for every layout or fan setting.
Reusable filtration shifts the work to you
The X5 does not use a conventional replaceable HEPA cassette. Its TPA assembly combines a washable pre-filter and collecting plates with an ionization wire frame and a composite catalyst/active-carbon layer. The manual says to vacuum or rinse the pre-filter, wash the collection plates with a mild, non-abrasive detergent and dry them completely, and clean the wire frame gently with a soft cloth; the wire frame must not be put in water. It describes the catalyst layer as reusable and says its odor-removal performance can decline with use. The product page says there are no routine replacement filters, but that does not mean no maintenance or no eventual part replacement.
Plan for the cleaning ritual before buying. Airdog's current FAQ says continuous 24/7 use commonly brings a cleaning prompt after roughly two to three months, depending on conditions. The manual recommends a more complete cleaning cycle every six to twelve months and distinguishes individual parts, so those are not the same maintenance event. The display's “C” reminder, visible buildup, reduced airflow and abnormal zapping sounds are practical cues; follow the exact instructions and allow washed components to dry before reinstalling. A disposable-media purifier is a better fit if carrying wet plates to a sink and waiting for them to dry is a deal-breaker.
Useful controls, with a model-version caveat
The manual documents a particle sensor, an AQI display, Auto, Sleep, four fan levels, child lock and a remote in the packing list. The exact sources call this an AQI display, but do not establish whether a separate numeric PM2.5 concentration also appears on the unit. The color-changing behavior of the indicator is not documented either, so treat both details as unknown if they matter to your choice. App setup is optional in the manual, which warns that some X5 units do not have built-in Wi-Fi. Although the product page advertises app control, the exact offer does not identify the Wi-Fi-equipped version. If app control is essential, verify the actual offer or serial-specific setup before relying on it. For the same reason, the finder does not count the X5 as a confirmed app model or as a no-app-only model.
Published size and weight also need care. The current comparison table gives 25.5 × 12.5 × 12.5 inches and 22.5 pounds, while the exact model manual gives 25.6 × 12.4 × 12 inches and 23.6 pounds. These are small but real discrepancies, so tight cabinet-fit or strict weight limits should not be decided from a single number here. The manual lists up to 63 dB(A); that ceiling is not a sound test by this review, and the page does not give a comparable range.
Who should compare it—and what with
The X5 is worth considering when a washable collector system and local sensor-driven operation matter more to you than a simple filter-swap routine, and you can accept the maintenance. The black X5+ is the closest alternative: Airdog describes it as the X5 platform with a different display/button treatment, built-in wheels and an app-enabled experience. Choose it for those convenience differences, not because the name promises a faster room rate. Airdog's smaller X3 and larger X8 are size-tier alternatives, but check their exact manuals and rated room basis before treating them as a substitute. If a firm 4.8-ACH area, a confirmed CADR figure or a documented app/no-app configuration is essential, compare a model that publishes and verifies that exact detail. Neither the X5's broad coverage headline nor its washable-media design resolves those requirements by itself.
