Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Do you need humidification and purification in the same appliance?
The exact DH3i has a combined operating arrangement with an air filter and wick installed.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the manual’s repeated-cleaning area cover your minimum room size?
The DH3i manual lists 301 sq ft at 4.8 ACH. The current page instead says 360 sq ft every 12.5 minutes; the manual figure is used conservatively.
Explore this need in the finder →Is the 3-liter reservoir large enough for your routine?
Blueair specifies a 3-liter DH3i tank; choose the exact capacity threshold rather than comparing its one-hour headline.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you want a numeric PM2.5 value at the unit?
The exact manual documents local PM2.5 and humidity display behavior; it is particle feedback, not gas sensing.
Explore this need in the finder →Will app control be useful for connected status and settings?
The DH3i supports Blueair app features with Bluetooth setup and 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi; local controls remain present.
Explore this need in the finder →Would you rather use the DH5i Pro’s DermaSense-specific humidity program?
That is not confirmed for DH3i. Its page/manual do not establish the named Pro program; a hard DermaSense requirement excludes this model.
Explore this need in the finder →Blueair’s 2-in-1 Purify + Humidify DH3i combines particle filtration with evaporative humidification. The name on the current U.S. product page is “2-in-1 Purify + Humidify,” while the linked English manual identifies DH3i and model code 6331411000. The U.S. offer is product 9661821911326, variant 49656096686366, SKU 111811 and barcode 689122028439. The DH5i Pro uses different main-filter and wick replacements.
Use the manual’s room figure for a strict fit
Blueair’s current DH3i product page lists 360 square feet every 12.5 minutes, 863 square feet in 30 minutes and 1,728 square feet in one hour. The linked manual gives a smaller 301-square-foot figure at 4.8 air changes per hour and 194 CFM for smoke, dust and pollen. The sources do not explain why their figures differ. Use 301 square feet for strict fit; preserve the page claim separately, not as an independent test. The page’s separate pollutant CADRs are 232 smoke, 222 dust and 235 pollen CFM; the manual’s same 194-CFM figure for each is another conflict, so no single generic CADR is treated as settled.
That conservative boundary puts the DH3i in the smaller-room class rather than treating its page headline as interchangeable with a higher repeated-air-change area. Its body is listed at 26 inches high and 13.6 inches wide/deep, with a 3-liter tank. Blueair’s page gives 36 watts and 24–52 dB, whereas the manual says 48 watts. The sound scale is not identified as dB(A). Because the power figures conflict and the sound weighting is absent, neither a strict maximum-wattage nor a dB(A) limit should be matched as confirmed.
A different kind of two-in-one than the Pro
The DH3i has a compact 3-liter reservoir, top-fill and removable-tank fill options, a humidifying wick and a distinct purifier-filter arrangement. The product listing says three air filters plus a wick are included; verify the exact offered package before ordering, because this is not the DH5i’s one main cartridge. Its manual documents automatic humidity targeting alongside particle-responsive purification, an on-unit PM2.5/humidity readout, Auto and Night use, manual fan speeds and app features. The manual supports smartphone setup through Bluetooth and 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi. Network features require the app connection; manual buttons remain available.
The DH5i Pro is the alternative if you want its larger 1.3-gallon reservoir, higher 391-square-foot product-page 4.8-ACH equivalent, machine-washable wick or specific DermaSense Skin Mode. DH3i does not have that documented DermaSense feature. It should not be treated as a cheaper color variant: tank, body, filter fit, manual code and operating details differ. If the room is near the DH3i’s stated maximum, the manual’s lower 301-square-foot rate figure is a safer basis than the current page’s 360-square-foot every-12.5-minutes claim.
Water care is part of the decision
Blueair calls the humidification system InvisibleMist and says it uses a wick rather than a visible mist plume. That may be attractive if you do not want a visible vapor stream, but it does not mean the wet components are maintenance-free. The manual instructs regular tank and wick cleaning, clean water only, and removal of the humidification module for deeper access. Its care directions say to clean the tank with mild detergent, rinse the wick as specified, clean the pump pre-filter, and descale when needed. The exact DH3i care page and manual describe a shorter wick replacement interval than the DH5i Pro manual; do not carry over the Pro’s machine-washing instructions to this model. Here, the manufacturer describes rinsing/cleaning the wick, not the Pro’s machine-washable routine.
The DH3i-specific filter page says up to six months, while the manual gives a 6–9-month recommendation. Use the indicator and actual conditions, not a calendar promise. The wick has its own reminder and separate replacement listing. The replacement filter page describes compatible DH3i cartridges, but confirm current package contents and fit before purchase. The main air filter is not washable; a combined unit adds parts and water care.
Controls, sensors and limitations
In purifier mode, its PM2.5 sensor and Auto function provide particle-related feedback; the display can show a numeric PM2.5 value and humidity. This is not evidence of gas-specific detection or a measure of every odor. The device has a display lock and provides local control in addition to the app. Its UV-C lamp is enclosed in the pump assembly; the manual warns against direct viewing and says the lamp is not user-replaceable. Only add clean water, unplug before maintenance, keep the intake and outlet unobstructed, and respect the four-inch clearance guidance. These are practical requirements for an appliance that combines electricity, airflow and a regularly serviced water reservoir.
The page’s rapid-cleaning text and larger one-hour area do not guarantee equivalent results in open plans, tall rooms or quiet mode. The 4.8-ACH benchmark is a useful comparison, not a promise for every layout. Ask yourself whether you need humidity at all: if your room is already comfortable, a conventional purifier avoids the extra tank, wick and pump routine. If both functions are important but the DH3i’s conservative room figure is too low, compare the DH5i Pro’s exact room rating or consider separate devices sized for the actual room.
Who should choose the DH3i?
Shortlist the DH3i for a smaller room where you want one appliance to humidify and purify, can work with a 3-liter reservoir, and accept recurring wick, tank, pump and filter care. It provides numeric particle/humidity feedback and connected controls without the DH5i’s specialized skin-mode feature. It is a poor fit if a strict room-area need exceeds 301 square feet at 4.8 ACH, a low-power cap must be proven, sound must be specified in dB(A), or you want a filter-free humidifier. If any of those limits are essential, the published source conflict is a reason to compare alternatives rather than to assume the larger or lower number in your favor.
