A useful fit for

A historical small-room configuration for shoppers comparing particle Auto and local numeric feedback with Alexa control, using the 225-sq-ft five-change area rather than the slower 1,000-sq-ft claim.

The main tradeoff

Alexa pairing adds Wi-Fi setup and requires the 2.4-GHz network described in the 11031 manual section; the 12030 filter is shared with non-smart 11030/11030J but is unavailable in the archived record. This model is not a current purchase suggestion.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you need sensor Auto and a numeric PM2.5 display in addition to Alexa control?

The exact 11031 page documents sensor Auto, the local PM2.5 value and Alexa app/speaker operation; its room rating remains 225 sq ft at five changes.

Can your Wi-Fi use the 2.4-GHz band described in the 11031-specific setup section?

The linked 840361102 guide explicitly labels its Alexa pairing steps for model 11031 and describes a 2.4-GHz router; app/voice setup is not part of the plain 11030 page.

Does its 225-square-foot five-change rating meet a 358-square-foot medium-room minimum?

No. The 1,000-square-foot figure is only at one change per hour; the exact faster-rate claim falls below the questionnaire’s medium threshold.

Clorox Smart Medium Room True HEPA Air Purifier model 11031 is the connected member of the 11030 medium-room family. The exact archived page describes Alexa app and speaker control while retaining the 225-square-foot five-change rating, sensor Auto, numeric PM2.5 display and six-level color indicator. In size and stated room capacity it is not a step up over the plain 11030/11030J; the practical difference is connected control. The manufacturer now marks the 11031 no longer available and RUNOUT, so this is a reference for identification or a used-unit comparison, not a current buying recommendation.

Same room class; more ways to control it

The 11031 is rated for 225 square feet at five air changes per hour and up to 1,000 square feet at one change per hour. For a bedroom or modest living space that needs repeated cleaning, use 225 as the faster-rate boundary. The 1,000-square-foot claim describes a much slower cycle, not a larger room at the same performance. Clorox’s figures assume a closed room with an eight-foot ceiling and highest speed. The exact page lists 148 CFM smoke, 154 dust and 160 pollen CADR; a room with open passages or a noise-sensitive speed choice may not behave like the stated test setup.

Its 8.74-inch-wide and deep body stands 14.65 inches tall and weighs 5.97 pounds. Three-stage 360-degree filtration combines a pre-filter, True HEPA and active carbon; the included cartridge is expected to last six to twelve months, depending on air quality. Clorox’s separate 12030 replacement page directly lists 11031 alongside 11030 and 11030J, and says the filter is no longer available. That is a useful crosswalk for owners, but not a promise that an authentic cartridge can be obtained today or at a particular price.

The product page says sensor Auto adjusts fan speed and lists a numeric PM2.5 display and color light. The four-speed panel, timer, filter reminder and lock give local options as well. Clorox says the quiet setting can be as low as 30 dB, but offers no measurement method or maximum noise figure on the page. No inference about every speed or sleeping-room noise is justified. The screen’s particle number and color signal should not be treated as a complete air-quality reading, and HEPA marketing language is not evidence of medical protection.

Connected setup has a cost

Alexa is genuinely distinct here: the manufacturer describes app operation and voice commands, whereas the plain 11030 and 11030J pages do not document it. The shared Use and Care guide 840361102 includes an Alexa pairing section clearly marked for model 11031 only. That manual section calls for a 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi network and describes supported security modes; owners who use only 5-GHz Wi-Fi should not assume pairing will work. This setup is extra work, not a reason to choose 11031 if the on-unit Auto function already meets the need.

Compare the 11031 with 11030/11030J by asking whether remote and voice control matter. The other models share the same published room class and sensor/number features but use local controls. For a less expensive-looking feature set is not enough; seller stock and exact SKU must be checked. The 11071 is another small-room option with a color Auto indicator and Turbo, but no documented numeric PM2.5 readout or Alexa. These differences can guide a used-model search without treating them as current offers.

Who it is for

Keep the 11031 on a shortlist only for identifying a specific device or comparing a used listing where 225 square feet at five changes, sensor Auto, local number display and Alexa control are all wanted together. Skip it if the room needs the larger 358-square-foot medium tier, if Wi-Fi setup is undesirable, or if you need confirmed present-day replacement-filter supply. Verify the 11031 model plate and 12030 filter fit before purchase; an archived product page describes a configuration, not condition, warranty or remaining life of somebody else’s unit.
