Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Do you need the HPA080 for an existing unit or a specific earlier seller offer?
The exact black HPA080B listing is discontinued. Enable earlier references to see it; that does not verify used condition, remaining warranty or replacement-media supply.
Explore this need in the finder →Is the 100-sq-ft repeated-cleaning rating enough?
HPA080B is documented at 100 sq ft at 4.8 ACH, which clears the personal tier but not the 140-sq-ft compact threshold.
Explore this need in the finder →Does it have sensor-driven Auto, and what does the sensor respond to?
The InSight Auto feature uses VOC sensing with color-level feedback, not particle-responsive Auto or numeric PM2.5.
Explore this need in the finder →Do the listed body dimensions meet a hard furniture opening?
No exact fit can be confirmed: Honeywell Store and Plugged In publish conflicting dimensions for HPA080. Unknown dimensions cannot satisfy a hard limit.

The black HPA080B is the smaller of two towers covered by Honeywell’s shared HPA080/HPA180 manual. The exact Honeywell Store product page now says the HPA080B is discontinued, so this review is for owners identifying a machine, checking its filters, or comparing it with a current replacement. It is not a default buying recommendation, and a generic “HPA080” search result should not be treated as proof that a new, current offer exists.
Its useful room figure is 100 square feet
The product details list the HPA080B for 100 square feet at 4.8 air changes per hour; Honeywell Store lists a smoke CADR of 65 CFM on that basis. Although some pages call it a “medium room” tower, that label is not a reason to push it into a room that needs the site’s 140-square-foot compact tier, much less a 219-square-foot minimum. The room-area field is intentionally conservative and comparable: the manufacturer’s detailed figure is 100 at 4.8 ACH. No slower one-change headline is substituted for this.
The HPA180 is the larger sibling, not simply a finish variation. Its detailed 4.8-ACH figure is 200 square feet and its smoke CADR is 132 CFM. It has two G filters where the HPA080 uses one, and stands 29.1 inches tall rather than 15.6 inches. If you need a current Honeywell model for a room larger than the HPA180’s 200-square-foot comparison point, look at the HPA5200’s separate 360-square-foot 4.8-ACH record instead of stretching this older tower’s title or the HPA180’s.
VOC sensing with simple local operation
The HPA080 uses an InSight panel with a color air-quality indicator and a VOC sensor. Its automatic cleaning mode can change fan setting in response to that sensor, while the controls also let you choose Quiet Clean, General Clean, Pollen or Turbo directly. This is useful if you want an on-unit signal and a hands-off setting, but it is not evidence that the tower has a PM2.5 display. The manual does not provide an app-based control path or a numeric pollutant reading. If you require an app or particle-specific feedback, this is not the right feature match.
There is a timer for two, four or eight hours and a dimmer for the display. Quiet Clean is a low fan setting, not a documented dedicated sleep program. A low speed can be useful at night, but no model-specific sound reading is listed in the product information reviewed here. Do not translate an adjective like “quiet” into a decibel value when a strict sound limit matters.
One main filter instead of two
The HPA080B listing includes one Type G HEPA filter and one Type A odor-reducing pre-filter. Honeywell’s manual recommends the G filter about once a year and the A or A+ pre-filter about every three months; more particles in the air can shorten useful life. A compatible optional Type T filter can target smoke, kitchen, pet or renovation odors. The Type G, A/A+ and T media are replacements rather than washable permanent filters. This is less filter media to replace than in the HPA180, though it does not offer the larger room rating.
The exact licensed Honeywell Store listing gives the HPA080B as 9.5 by 7.1 by 15.6 inches (L × W × H) and 8.6 pounds, with a five-year limited warranty. The Honeywell Plugged In HPA080 page instead lists 12.8 by 10.43 by 19.45 inches. Those source values conflict, so use neither dimension set for a hard furniture-fit decision without checking the model label and measuring the actual unit. The shared manual directs owners to run it upright on a stable surface with intake and outlet unobstructed, indoors and away from damp locations. Before use, unwrap the filters. During maintenance, unplug it and avoid breathing dust released while changing used filter media.
How to use this review
If you already own an HPA080B, the model plate and black finish identify the exact configuration covered here; its one-filter G arrangement is also an easy way to distinguish it from the HPA180. Check the label on your unit before ordering replacements, since other Honeywell towers use different filter families. The product page lists model HPA080B and UPC 328785006186; the shared manual covers both the HPA080 and HPA180 series but specifies different counts for the two.
For a current purchase, do not use this discontinued model as a shortcut to a low-cost recommendation. Start with the HPA180 if you want a current tower with the same VOC-sensing controls and your room fits its 200-square-foot 4.8-ACH entry; move to the HPA5200 when the room threshold is larger. If a washable permanent filter is essential, compare an exact Air Genius model instead. Across these alternatives, keep filter type, actual room basis, and the presence or absence of app/particle sensing in separate columns; one feature does not stand in for another.
The HPA080B identity, discontinued status, dimensions and included filters were checked against the exact licensed Honeywell Store record; operating details were checked against the shared HPA080/HPA180 owner’s manual and Honeywell InSight support material.
