Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the HPA200 support the required 4.8-ACH room area without substituting a slower one-hour headline?
The exact manufacturer product page and AHAM model entry establish 310 sq ft at the 4.8-ACH basis; other room-area headlines do not change that repeated-cleaning threshold. This exact model is discontinued, so use it for identification or a specific seller offer.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the HPA200 meet its exact smoke-CADR threshold rather than a different pollutant's larger figure?
The AHAM 2023 directory identifies exact HPA200 smoke CADR at 200 CFM (dust 190, pollen 180); the smoke value is the relevant single minimum. No bigger dust/pollen value is substituted.
Explore this need in the finder →Are direct controls and timer enough, or is sensor-based Auto essential on the HPA200?
The exact family manual documents direct speed/mode selection, Turbo and a 2/4/8-hour auto-off timer; its filter lights count operating time rather than measuring particles. No sensor-driven Auto or app function is documented. This model is discontinued; replacement media must be checked before pursuing an offer.
Explore this need in the finder →The Honeywell HPA200 is the black, larger console between the smaller HPA104 and white HPA304 in this older Allergen Plus set. It is a manual HEPA unit, not a smart purifier: its appeal is a 310-square-foot repeated-cleaning rating and a familiar, direct control panel. The licensed Honeywell Store now marks its exact HPA200 offer discontinued. Treat this page as an assessment of the model and any verified example, not a promise that a new unit or filters are still easy to buy.
Don't let the larger-looking headline replace the rating
The exact Honeywell Plugged In page and the HPA200 product page's leading specification identify 310 square feet at 4.8 air changes per hour, with smoke CADR 200 CFM, dust 190, and pollen 180. The Store page's longer descriptive paragraph incorrectly repeats 465 square feet from the larger sibling family, but its own rating table returns to 310 and the official Plugged In product details also say 310. Use the repeated 310-square-foot value, not the conflicting copy. The 4.8-ACH claim is based on third-party smoke-CADR testing at the highest setting; room shape, air pathways, ceiling height, doors, furniture, and the speed you can tolerate still matter.
In the questionnaire, 310 square feet clears the 219-square-foot small-room threshold but does not meet the 358-square-foot medium tier. The Store's dimensions also conflict with the Honeywell Plugged In page: one lists about 17.72 × 10.05 × 18.86 inches, while the other gives about 20.3 inches high, 19.3 inches long, and 11.5 inches wide. Since this disagreement affects strict fit decisions, do not rely on an exact maximum width, depth, or height without measuring the individual machine.
Three everyday levels and a separate Turbo setting
The HPA090/100/200/300 family manual describes three normal cleaning modes and a Turbo boost. It also documents direct on-unit controls, a 2-, 4-, or 8-hour shutoff timer, a dimmer, and separate reminder lights for the pre-filter and HEPA filters. These reminders count operating time; they are not particle or gas sensors. The HPA200 does not have documented app control, air-quality Auto, a numeric PM2.5 display, or a color AQI. The page describes quiet operation but provides no numerical dB(A) range, so “quiet” cannot pass an essential noise cap. A useful buyer is someone who is content to select and leave a speed rather than expect the appliance to react to a sensor.
Two R filters change the maintenance arithmetic
The exact HPA200 package includes two Type R certified HEPA filters and one Type A odor-reducing pre-filter. The R filters are rated to capture up to 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns and larger from air that passes through the media. The A pre-filter helps reduce household odors and larger debris; it is not a guarantee of broad gas removal and does not control carbon monoxide. Honeywell's guidance is about 12 months for the R filters and three months for the A filter, adjusted for home conditions. The manual says filters are not washable and recommends unplugging before service, removing the protective wrappers, and returning the pre-filter to its retaining tabs. Check that the exact R/A replacement types are available and correctly fitted before buying a used HPA200.
Compared with the HPA104, the HPA200 raises the 4.8-ACH area from 155 to 310 square feet, but doubles the number of R filters in the annual change. It is still below the HPA304's 465-square-foot benchmark. The suite of modes is largely shared; the meaningful difference is delivered-air scale and the accompanying media workload, not added automation.
When the HPA200 is—or isn't—the right reference
The HPA200 may suit someone checking an existing machine in a closed, medium-small living space where direct speed control and two R-filter replacements are acceptable. It is a poor match when the room needs at least 358 square feet at the 4.8-ACH comparison basis, when an exact footprint limit matters, or when app scheduling, sensor response, or a stated sound level is essential. A broad “large room” label does not waive those conditions.
Honeywell lists the HPA200 as discontinued. The exact product page still describes its filter system and performance, but current online buying results can mix suffixes, refurbished units, and filter bundles. Confirm model marking and return policy; don't mistake a box with two units for a single unit with double-room capacity. If shopping new, compare a currently listed model's own room-area basis and filter count rather than assuming a new suffix is equivalent to HPA200.
