A useful fit for

A good fit for a household that values the real beechwood housing and wants the documented PM2.5-sensing Smart Mode, app access, and a direct 2-ACH room table. Its appearance and material story are distinctive within the Atem family; the plastic Atem Eco shares the same top 2-ACH room figure at a lighter listed weight.

The main tradeoff

Its headline 1,460 sq ft is specifically a speed-six, 2-ACH, 8-ft-ceiling rating, not the finder’s 4.8-ACH figure; the listed airflow is not CADR. High speed is 50 W and 56 dB(A) sound pressure with unspecified distance. It is a floor-standing 17-lb cylinder, not a wheeled compact unit; its carbon postfilter has no documented specialty replacement profile.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Will a 2-ACH room table cover your chosen area at the highest listed fan setting?

IQAir lists 1,460 sq ft at 2 ACH and an 8-ft ceiling on speed six. That is a direct rate-specific value, not a 4.8-ACH rating.

Can Smart Mode respond to particles while you retain app and on-unit control?

The exact Earth page and user guide identify the PM2.5 particle sensor, Smart Mode, AirVisual app and device panel. Its on-unit feedback is color-ring based rather than numeric PM2.5.

Do you need a 4.8-ACH rating, or is the specified two-change table acceptable?

The exact page gives a 2-ACH area table and airflow, but no CADR or 4.8-ACH room area. A strict 4.8-ACH minimum cannot be inferred.

IQAir Atem Earth review: beechwood styling with a rate-specific room claim

The Atem Earth is IQAir's wood-clad floor purifier for someone who wants a quieter-looking object in the room without giving up connected particle monitoring. Its useful distinction is not an unqualified promise to clean any large space: the manufacturer publishes a six-setting table at two air changes per hour, including 1,460 square feet only at speed six and an eight-foot ceiling. It also has a PM2.5 sensor, Smart Mode, app access, a local control panel and color feedback. Buyers who need a fast repeated-cleaning rating should not treat the two-ACH table as one.

What the wood housing does—and does not—change

Earth is a 24-inch-tall cylinder, 13.5 inches in diameter and 17 pounds with its filter. Its beechwood outer housing is the conspicuous difference from the plastic Atem Eco. That material and finish matter if the purifier will sit in a living space all day; they do not establish different air-cleaning capacity. IQAir's listed two-ACH areas are identical for Earth and Eco at every speed. The Eco is listed one pound lighter, while Earth's wood construction makes it the more furniture-like choice. Neither model is a compact tabletop unit, and the reviewed sources do not show wheels for Earth.

Keep the inlet and outlet clear rather than treating the body diameter as the whole placement allowance. This is a floor-standing unit, not a wall plug purifier. If the intended location is a desk or the breathing zone at close range, the Atem Desk has a directed diffuser and smaller footprint. For a passenger car, the separate Atem Car is the model intended for that job; Earth is not a substitute for it.

Use the room table at the rate it actually names

At the six fan settings, IQAir lists two-ACH areas of 225, 450, 638, 825, 1,030 and 1,460 square feet for an eight-foot ceiling. Higher listed airflow follows those settings from 60 to 390 cubic feet per minute, but that is airflow, not a smoke CADR. The page does not provide an exact CADR or a 4.8-ACH area for Earth. So the 1,460-square-foot figure is useful only if a two-change comparison is appropriate and you are willing to use top speed. It is not evidence for a 606-square-foot rating at 4.8 ACH. Open layouts, higher ceilings and doors between rooms further weaken simple area comparisons.

That distinction matters when a filter questionnaire has a hard repeated-cleaning threshold. Earth can be a reasonable candidate when you want a direct two-ACH table, but a strict 4.8-ACH requirement should be met by a model with a supported figure at that basis. IQAir's Atem X publishes up to 471 CFM CADR; from that, an eight-foot ceiling calculation is about 736 square feet at 4.8 ACH, though the manufacturer separately advertises 1,650 square feet without an ACH basis. Those are different claims, and neither should be silently substituted for Earth's.

Filtration, monitoring and everyday control

Earth has two functional filtration stages: a HyperHEPA particle filter and an activated-carbon postfilter. The carbon is a useful companion for ordinary household odors, but no specialized carbon profile or heavy-gas capacity is established in the reviewed exact-model material. If smoke, chemical vapors or a defined gas problem is the main concern, compare a purifier with an explicitly documented gas-stage configuration, such as IQAir's GC MultiGas line, rather than assuming a carbon postfilter meets every gas need. The manufacturer also does not give a filter replacement interval in the reviewed product section; do not turn a generic family estimate into an Earth-specific schedule.

A built-in particle sensor supports Smart Mode and the device can also be controlled locally or with IQAir's AirVisual app over 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi. The on-unit feedback is a color-ring display, not a numeric PM2.5 concentration. The app can provide connected readings; outdoor comparison depends on the app and an active connection. That is a different setup from a unit that prints the particle number on its own face. If you prefer no app capability at all, Earth does not fit that strict requirement, although local operation remains available.

Noise, power and who should compare

The page lists power by speed from 4 to 50 watts and sound pressure from 16 to 56 dB(A). The reviewed section does not state the sound-measurement distance, so its high-speed number is not a lab promise for your room. Noise and power rise with the fan setting; a buyer who must keep the purifier quiet at night should consider the lower-speed use they can actually tolerate, not size the room by a maximum-speed headline.

Choose Earth if the beechwood finish is worth the extra weight to you and you want a documented two-ACH table with Smart Mode, app and local controls. Choose Eco if a plastic body and its documented three-phase impactor, HyperHEPA and micro-carbon assembly make more sense; IQAir says its carbon support is for light household odor and points buyers with heavier gas needs to a gas-focused model. Consider Atem X if you want a published CADR and wheels, while accepting its larger body, higher maximum draw and more complex six-filter stack. Pass on Earth if your essential need is a known CADR, a confirmed 4.8-ACH room size, numeric on-unit PM2.5, or a documented specialty-gas filter. Its strongest case is its finish and supported two-change table—not an extrapolated performance rate.
