A useful fit for

A good fit for a large-room buyer who wants a directly stated CADR, a movable wheeled base, app and local controls, and several sensors. The 471-CFM maximum produces a transparent 736-sq-ft 4.8-ACH comparison at an 8-ft ceiling; that is more useful for rate-based screening than its unqualified 1,650-sq-ft headline.

The main tradeoff

It is a broad 28.7-lb floor unit with a high-speed 86-W draw and 58 dB(A) sound-pressure figure at 3.3 ft. The separate 1,650-sq-ft maker claim has no stated ACH basis; 2-ACH room coverage is not inferred. Three impactors and three main filters mean more components to service. The reviewed filter stack is particle-focused rather than a dedicated gas-stage configuration.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does maximum CADR support a 736-sq-ft 4.8-ACH comparison at an 8-ft ceiling, but not 737?

IQAir lists maximum CADR 471 CFM. At 4.8 air changes and an 8-ft ceiling, 471 x 60 / (4.8 x 8) is about 736 sq ft; this is a calculation, not the unqualified 1,650-sq-ft page claim.

Do you need PM2.5-responsive automatic operation, with a color rather than numeric on-unit particle indicator?

The official page lists PM2.5 among the integrated sensors and three sensor-based Smart modes. The local indicator is not treated as a numeric on-unit PM2.5 readout.

Do you need app and local controls, plus the included wheeled base, without a higher 4.8-ACH minimum?

The exact page lists device controls and app integration, and identifies the supplied mobile base with wheels for hard floors. The calculated 4.8-ACH comparison is about 736 sq ft, below 750.

IQAir Atem X review: the Atem with a published CADR and rolling base

The Atem X is the room-sized, wheeled member of IQAir's Atem family. Its useful differentiators are a published maximum CADR of 471 CFM, eight manual fan settings, three Smart modes, several listed sensors and a hard-floor mobile base. The headline “up to 1,650 sq ft” on the product page has no stated air-change basis, so it should not decide a room-fit purchase by itself. For an apples-to-apples comparison, the CADR supports a transparent calculation at a chosen air-change rate—while still leaving important assumptions visible.

What the CADR can say about a room

At maximum output, IQAir lists 471 CFM CADR. Using the familiar eight-foot ceiling and 4.8-air-change comparison, 471 × 60 ÷ (4.8 × 8) is about 736 square feet. This is a calculation from the stated CADR, not a direct product-page room rating. It is much more useful than treating 1,650 square feet as a repeated-cleaning promise, but it is still a comparison value: the reviewed specification does not name a pollutant-specific basis for that maximum CADR. A two-ACH area is not supplied in a matching rate basis, so this review leaves that field unknown rather than deriving another number from the marketing headline.

The eight-speed table ties higher outputs to higher power and noise. IQAir lists 6, 7, 9, 12, 21, 34, 57 and 86 watts across settings, and sound pressure from 15 to 58 dB(A) measured at 3.3 feet. If you plan to run it in a bedroom or beside a desk, the highest-speed room comparison may be unusable during quiet hours. Its room-fit advantage only matters if your household can accept the operating level needed to approach that output.

Filtration and sensor-based modes

The main particle system has three washable impactor prefilters and three Smart HyperHEPA HF filters. IQAir says the HF filters last up to 36 months; “up to” is a maker estimate, not a promise for every home or fan schedule. More separate elements mean more service pieces than the simpler one-filter Atem Desk. The reviewed stack is particle-focused; no dedicated gas-filter stage or specialty carbon profile is established for this configuration. If odors or gases dominate your need, compare a model with a documented gas stage rather than assuming the particle filters do both jobs.

The integrated sensor list includes PM2.5, carbon dioxide, temperature and relative humidity. Three sensor-based Smart modes and app access give the user more information than the Earth and Eco's documented particle-focused sensing, while local controls remain available. The page describes color-based feedback; it does not establish a numeric PM2.5 concentration on the unit itself. The CO2 sensor is useful as a separate room signal, but it is not a measure of all pollutants and does not prove that a ventilation source has been fixed. The AirVisual app needs a Wi-Fi connection; the unit also has controls on the appliance.

Placement, size and everyday movement

Atem X is listed at 27.1 inches high, 25.2 inches wide, 10 inches deep and 28.7 pounds. Its supplied base has wheels intended for hard-floor movement. This helps if you need to reposition a substantial unit between rooms, but the broad footprint still needs an open inlet and outlet path. A 28.7-pound appliance is not a casual stair carry, and wheels on hard floors do not make it a portable tabletop model. For a smaller fixed footprint, Earth and Eco are narrow cylinders; for close-range personal airflow, Desk has a directed diffuser.

It is a 110–120-volt household unit, and the product page documents app and local operation. Its high-speed 86-watt draw is a real tradeoff if a hard power cap matters. The noise-pressure measurement distance is stated for the listed sound range, unlike Earth and Eco, whose reviewed page section leaves the distance unstated. Do not compare those family sound figures as if their measurement setups were identical.

Who should choose X

Choose Atem X when a directly published CADR, sensor variety and rolling floor base matter more than the smaller Atem bodies, and your target room fits the 4.8-ACH calculation with margin. It offers the most concrete fast-rate comparison within this specific family; the Earth and Eco offer a direct two-ACH table instead, not a competing 4.8-ACH number. If a 750-square-foot 4.8-ACH threshold is essential, the 736-square-foot calculation falls short, and the unqualified 1,650-square-foot claim does not fill the gap.

Pass on X if you require a direct manufacturer 4.8-ACH room claim rather than a calculation, a matching 2-ACH figure, a specialty gas stage, or numeric particle concentration on the appliance. Also compare its full dimensions, multi-part filter maintenance, high-speed noise and peak power before using the maximum as your normal setting. The HealthPro Plus XE is a more explicitly layered gas-and-particle system with its own two-ACH figure; X is the better-defined rate comparison here, not an all-purpose replacement for a dedicated gas filter. Use the precise basis that fits your room rather than the largest available square-foot headline.
