A useful fit for

Best when the room can use the documented Air 3 Basic Breather plan (400 ft² at 5 ACH), and the buyer wants app routines, on-unit operation, Auto and several filter media choices.

The main tradeoff

The room-rate claim is filter-specific; it is not a 4.8-ACH rating and must not be copied onto other filter plans. Filter-dependent airflow and some current noise/sensor claims differ across Mila materials. App features need the 2.4-GHz connection, and a bare standalone body arrives without a filter.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the Air 3 have a five-ACH room rating?

Mila publishes 400 ft² at 5 ACH for the Basic Breather setup. The rate does not transfer to Big Sneeze, Critter Cuddler, Overreactor, or the other selected filter configurations without a matching specification.

Can it work with app control while keeping local controls?

Yes. Mila describes app operation and on-unit touch controls. App routines and remote features use 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi; physical controls remain available.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is its exact particle-sensor Auto response confirmed?

Mila says the Air 3 adds a VOC sensor and pressure sensor; this is distinct from confirming that the sensor measures total VOCs or that particles trigger Automagic. Particle-specific Auto is not confirmed.

Is the Critter Cuddler option the named Pet Allergy Filter?

No. Critter Cuddler is a differently named Mila filter and does not match the exact Pet Allergy Filter with ARC Formula tested by this finder.

Can its five-ACH claim meet a 4.8-ACH requirement?

No such 4.8-ACH area is established by the reviewed Mila page. A 400-ft² figure at 5 ACH cannot be substituted for an exact 4.8-ACH value.

Does the Air 3 establish an exact TVOC sensor?

Mila calls it a VOC sensor. The reviewed manufacturer material does not establish a total-VOC measurement basis, so this site leaves the stricter TVOC field unknown.

The Mila Air 3 is the large-room member of Mila’s app-connected purifier family. It is most useful when you want scheduled or sensor-led operation and are willing to choose a filter for the particular room. Mila publishes 400 square feet at 5 air changes per hour (ACH) and up to 1,000 square feet at 2 ACH; those are different cleaning rates, not interchangeable room-size promises. The 5-ACH number is tied to the highest-output Basic Breather configuration. This site does not treat it as a 4.8-ACH rating, and it does not extend the number to every filter option.

Filter choice is a real operating choice

The Air 3 is sold with a selected filter or as a standalone body with no filter preinstalled. The seven listed Mila Air/Air 3 options are Basic Breather, Big Sneeze, Critter Cuddler, Overreactor, Home Wrecker, Mama-to-Be and Rookie Parent. They share a purifier body, but the media emphasis and published airflow are not identical. Mila’s product material lists 460 m³/h for Basic Breather, 412 for Big Sneeze, 350 for Critter Cuddler and 265 for Overreactor. Elsewhere it gives 352 for Critter Cuddler and a 262–460 m³/h Air 3 range. Those are manufacturer figures with a visible discrepancy, so do not treat a single generic Air 3 CADR as applicable to every filter.

Basic Breather is the straightforward everyday option and the one attached to the 400-square-foot, 5-ACH claim. Big Sneeze uses H13 media and is positioned for pollen and dust allergens. Critter Cuddler pairs H13 media with carbon described for ammonia and comes with a washable Mila Sock prefilter; it is not the specifically named Levoit Pet Allergy Filter with ARC Formula in this site's questionnaire. Overreactor is the more carbon-heavy option, with H14 media and a manufacturer-listed 1.25 pounds of modified carbon. Home Wrecker, Mama-to-Be and Rookie Parent are named alternatives, but their room-rate/CADR values are not established in the material reviewed here. Pick the exact filter before matching the purifier to a hard room-size threshold.

Smart operation has a connectivity tradeoff

The on-unit display and touch controls support both manual fan selection and Mila's Automagic operation. Automagic adjusts to indoor readings and user settings; newer Mila Air 3 materials also describe selectable performance profiles and a custom room size. Sleep, Quiet and White Noise modes are aimed at a calmer bedroom routine, while Housekeeping and Turndown can schedule a stronger clean when the room is empty or before bedtime. Some modes, alerts and remote controls depend on the Mila app, an internet connection and a 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi network. The purifier can still operate locally without Wi-Fi, but the most connected features are not offline substitutes.

Mila describes the Air 3 as having VOC and pressure sensors beyond the original Air's sensor set. It also markets a larger sensor count, but the current product page and support copy do not reconcile every count or say that each sensor is used by every automatic profile. Treat an app air-quality report as the maker's monitor, not a safety alarm or a medical measurement. The unit's room-presence behavior can also dim the display; a dark screen does not necessarily mean the purifier has stopped.

Check the room and the replacement routine

The listed body is 11.8 inches square and 15.5 inches high, weighs 18 pounds, and needs roughly 11.8 inches of clearance on each side for its four-sided intake. That is a meaningful placement constraint beside a wall, in a cubby or under furniture. Mila's exact standalone offer and filter-included offers are different purchase configurations: a bare body is not ready to filter air until a compatible filter is installed. The website's Auto-Refill option schedules a replacement every six months; that is a subscription cadence, not proof that every filter must be changed at precisely that interval. The older Mila Air manual gives a 6–9-month interval, while a separate Air 3-specific maintenance interval is not stated in the captured current support material.

The broad 1,000-square-foot claim is a 2-ACH air-refresh figure. For a faster bedroom or allergy comparison, the manufacturer promotes 400 square feet at 5 ACH with the Basic Breather. It does not publish a directly equivalent 4.8-ACH number here. If a strict 4.8-ACH or CFM CADR threshold is essential, leave that choice unanswered rather than transferring a room figure from another filter or rate. If you want app control, automatic response and a published 5-ACH Basic Breather setup, the Air 3 is the strongest fit in this Mila trio. If 318 square feet at 5 ACH is enough and a smaller cabinet matters, compare the Air Mini. If you need an older Mila with less performance documentation, see the original Air review before choosing the current refurbished offer.
