Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Will one Blue Pure 311i+ Max meet a medium-room threshold of 358 ft² at Blueair’s listed 4.8-ACH rate?
Yes. The exact product table lists 525 ft² at 4.8 ACH for this single purifier; the one-hour room claims are not used as a substitute.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a five-color PM2.5 status light enough, or do I need a number on the machine?
The manual documents a five-color PM2.5 status light, not a numerical PM concentration on the 311i+ Max itself. Choose color-only feedback if that is enough; a required on-unit number rules it out.
Explore this need in the finder →Do I need automatic fan-speed changes based on an air-quality sensor?
Yes. Auto mode changes the fan setting according to the PM2.5 sensor; the panel also has Night and manual numbered speed settings.
Explore this need in the finder →Must app control be available alongside local buttons?
Yes. The exact 311i+ Max is Wi-Fi/app capable and also has local controls; first setup needs Bluetooth and a 2.4-GHz network.
Explore this need in the finder →Is SmokeBlock a supported replacement profile if wildfire smoke or stronger odors matter?
Blueair's exact F3MAX+ replacement page identifies the 311i+ Max and lists SmokeBlock separately from the in-box Particle & Carbon filter.
Explore this need in the finder →Will the body fit a 13-inch maximum-width position?
The published body width is 12.5 inches, so the shell meets a 13-inch width limit; air inlets still need open space around the unit.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a 38-watt maximum input acceptable?
The exact product page lists 38 W. That is a rated input, not measured use in every mode.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I shortlist this on the confirmed room and controls without requiring a generic CADR value?
A generic CFM value is not settled: the exact model's technical table and the matching bundle FAQ disagree on pollutant CADR. The generic minimum remains unknown.
Explore this need in the finder →The Blue Pure 311i+ Max is the taller, higher-capacity sibling of Blueair’s 311i Max: its U.S. product page lists 525 square feet at 4.8 air changes per hour, compared with 439 square feet for the non-plus model. It suits a medium-to-large single room when a color air-quality indicator is enough and app control is useful. It is not the choice for a required numeric PM reading on the purifier itself.
Use its repeated-cleaning rating, not an older headline
The current technical table gives this exact model a 525-square-foot recommendation at 4.8 ACH. Blueair’s page also contains older or conflicting room-area text: one FAQ gives 1,260 square feet in 30 minutes and 2,520 in an hour, while other promotional text says 1,000 and 2,000 and a page title uses 465 square feet. Those slower-rate figures are not a substitute for the repeated-cleaning figure. This assessment therefore matches only the clearly labeled 525-square-foot, 4.8-ACH value; if a 30-minute or one-hour room rating is essential, ask Blueair which current figure applies to your offered unit.
That basis puts the 311i+ Max above the site’s medium-room threshold but below its 606-square-foot large-room cutoff. The similarly named Blue Pure 311i Max is shorter and rated for 439 square feet at 4.8 ACH; the much larger 211i Max is a separate model with a 674-square-foot listing and a numerical particle display. A larger room, an open plan or high ceilings can change practical fit, and the room figures are not a promise for every speed setting.
Local buttons and automatic cleaning; color feedback rather than a number
The purifier’s sensor reads PM2.5, and the manual describes a five-color air-quality indicator. It does not document a numeric PM2.5 value on the 311i+ Max’s own panel. Choose it if a color status is sufficient; choose another model if you need an actual PM number at the machine. Its Auto mode changes fan speed according to the sensor, while Night and three numbered speeds can be selected locally. The manual also documents a child lock against accidental button changes. That lock is a control safeguard, not a pet-cleaning mode.
Wi-Fi and the Blueair app add remote control and filter-use information, but physical start and speed buttons remain available. First-time pairing uses Bluetooth, and the manual says the purifier connects to a 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi network. This is not a manual-only model: if avoiding app-capable products is a hard condition, its app status fails that requirement even though the local controls work.
Know which filter is in the box
The one-unit package is described as one Particle & Carbon main filter and one washable fabric pre-filter, in Stockholm Fog. The everyday filter is the starting configuration; Blueair lists AllergenBlock and SmokeBlock options as separate replacements, with SmokeBlock presented as the higher-carbon choice for smoke and stronger odors. The special filters are not all included. The Plus model’s F3MAX+ filter page identifies the exact 311i+ Max and lists those replacement types, so do not substitute the visually similar 311i Max cartridge by name alone.
Blueair says filter life can be up to nine months; the manual describes a red replacement indicator that may come on between six and nine months, depending on use and air conditions. That is a range, not a guaranteed schedule. For service, turn the purifier off and unplug it, remove the top, lift out the washable fabric pre-filter and silencer, then replace the main cartridge after removing its plastic wrap. The main filter is not washable. Vacuum the fabric pre-filter with a soft brush when dusty; if washing is needed, follow its care label and let it dry before refitting. After installing a new main filter, hold the fan-speed button for about 15 seconds to reset the indicator.
Check the full footprint and the actual sound requirement
The listed body is 21 inches high by 12.5 inches across and deep, and weighs 7.9 pounds. It draws a listed 38 watts. Its height and power are the main practical costs of moving up from the 19-inch, 32-watt 311i Max. Keep the top outlet and side intake unobstructed; the body dimensions do not include a furniture opening or clearance around it. The product table says 23–50 dB, while its FAQ describes a 25-dB low setting and 50 dB high. Neither source specifies dB(A), so a strict dB(A) cap is not confirmed.
There is also a CADR conflict to respect. The current technical table gives pollen, dust and smoke values of 446, 370 and 339 CFM, while an official bundle-page FAQ gives 300 CFM for each pollutant and older graphics use different room figures. A single generic CADR is therefore not a safe matching value. If a specific CFM minimum is essential, do not count this model until Blueair clarifies the exact current rating.
The 311i+ Max is a sensible candidate when 525 square feet at 4.8 ACH, automatic response, physical controls, a washable outer pre-filter and optional app access all suit one room. It is a weaker fit when a numeric on-unit PM reading, a confirmed generic CADR, dB(A) ceiling or 606-square-foot repeated-cleaning rating is essential. Compare the shorter Blue Pure 311i Max if height and a 32-watt rating matter more than the extra listed area; compare the Blue Pure 211i Max if you want a larger published 4.8-ACH room rating and numerical particle values at the unit.
