Winix model comparison

Winix D360 vs D480: compare room rating and filter fit

The Winix D360 and D480 share a directly linked U.S. manual and a similar local-control routine, but they are separate purifier models with different room claims, cabinet sizes, power ratings and replacement filters. The D360’s conservative repeated-cleaning figure is 360 square feet at 4.8 air changes per hour (ACH); the D480 is 480 square feet at the same benchmark. Both therefore fall in this library’s medium room tier, not its large tier. The D480’s page shows a 498-square-foot headline in one place, but its AHAM table and shared manual say 480; use 480 for a strict fit.

Room area before the feature list

If the room is at or below 360 square feet, the D360 covers the conservative page/manual figure. A room that needs more repeated-cleaning area but stays within 480 square feet points toward the D480. The ratings do not establish the right choice for a connected open plan or high ceiling: Winix’s AHAM note describes an eight-foot ceiling, while actual walls, doors and room contents change airflow. Neither purifier should be treated as a 606-square-foot large-room match on these records. The D360 page’s much larger one-hour area example describes a slower interval, not equivalent 4.8-ACH performance.

Same controls, different cabinet and load

Both are non-app models with physical buttons, odor-responsive Auto, a separate light sensor, automatic Sleep in darkness, three-color air-quality feedback and no listed timer. The manuals call the fan sequence Low, Medium, High, Turbo and Sleep, while Auto is a separate mode. In Auto, the Smart Sensor detects odorous gas and adjusts the speed; neither source establishes particle-specific Auto or a numeric on-unit PM2.5 readout. Sleep darkens the indicator and sets the fan below Low. Each page reports 25 dB as a minimum only, so neither model has a confirmed maximum noise level for a strict sound cap.

The D360 is 15 inches wide, 21 inches high and 13 pounds; its rated input is 65 watts. The D480 is 17.2 inches wide, 24.2 inches high and 16.2 pounds at 90 watts. Depth is unsettled for both: the D360 page/manual say 10.4/9.5 inches and the D480 page/manual say 11/11.4 inches. Both manuals ask for 12–18 inches of open space from walls and nearby electronics, so a measurement that only clears the cabinet may still be unsuitable. Confirm the precise depth if it controls a tight-placement decision.

Do not swap their filter identities

Each uses a washable pre-filter, activated carbon and True HEPA, with carbon guidance around every three months and HEPA around every 12 months. The D360 uses Filter D3, part 1712-0101-02; the D480’s exact compatible set is Filter D4, part 1712-0100-02. The D4 page’s SEO title differs from the SKU written in its URL and compatibility copy, so use the explicit D4 and “-02” part. Both sets require recurring filter attention; the pre-filter is permanent, cleaned about every 14 days and dried for 24 hours or longer if rinsed. Do not wash the carbon or HEPA media.

The D360 page states a two-year warranty. The D480 page states one year, while the shared manual says two years for both. That is a live source conflict, not a reason to project one term onto the other. Check exact D480 offer paperwork if the warranty period changes your decision. Likewise, both pages provide dust/pollen/smoke CADR numbers without a unit in the technical table; the numbers are not converted to CFM in these assessments.

Which fits your room?

Pick D360 for a room within 360 square feet when its lower rated wattage and smaller width/height fit the space. Choose D480 when the additional 120 square feet at 4.8 ACH is useful and the larger body and 90-watt rating work for the routine. Neither offers app control; both provide odor-based Auto, Sleep and physical settings. If you need a numeric particle display, maximum noise value, verified CFM CADR, app, large-room tier or a specialty pet filter, look for a model whose exact sources establish that capability rather than assuming it from this family’s general carbon stage. Read the D360 review or D480 review for setup and source conflicts before choosing.
