Blueair Blue Pure 311i Max vs 311i+ Max: room size and exact fit
Blueair’s 311i Max and 311i+ Max look like close relatives, but their U.S. pages list different room capacities, heights, power ratings and replacement-filter labels. The right one depends on the room and the limit that matters most—not on the extra plus sign as a general upgrade badge.
Compare the same room-rate and physical measurements
| Model | Room at 4.8 ACH | Body (H × W × D) | Listed input | On-unit feedback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Pure 311i Max | 439 ft² | 19 × 12.5 × 12.5 in | 32 W | Five-color PM2.5 status |
| Blue Pure 311i+ Max | 525 ft² | 21 × 12.5 × 12.5 in | 38 W | Five-color PM2.5 status |
| Blue Pure 211i Max | 674 ft² | 22.7 × 14.4 × 14.4 in | 46 W | Numeric PM1, PM2.5 or PM10 reading |
These are manufacturer-listed figures for the current U.S. pages, not measurements from an independent test. The 311i Max page title still uses a 465-square-foot figure, and Blueair’s 311i+ Max page contains mixed older interval-size claims. For comparing repeated cleaning, use the explicit 4.8-ACH values above. The room rating is only useful if the whole intended room can exchange air with the purifier; an open-plan area or high ceiling is not a guaranteed fit.
When the 311i Max is the better fit
Choose the non-plus 311i Max when its 439-square-foot listed area clears your real room and saving two inches of height or six listed watts matters. It remains a connected unit with local controls, Auto response and a color status light, so it is not a no-app/manual-only purifier. Its own panel does not give a numeric PM2.5 concentration. The specifications give separate pollen, dust and smoke CADR values; do not reuse a single generic CFM threshold as though each pollutant had the same number.
Replacement filters deserve caution. Blueair’s non-plus filter page names the 311i Max in its title and compatibility paragraph, but the FAQ on that same page says the filter is only compatible with 311i+ Max. That is an internal source conflict, not evidence that the cartridges cross-fit. Check the purifier’s internal model label and ask Blueair to identify the matching replacement before buying specialty media.
When the 311i+ Max’s extra room rating is worth the larger shell
The 311i+ Max is the better of the two 311i versions when 525 square feet at 4.8 ACH is essential. It is also the taller model and uses more listed power, while width and depth remain 12.5 inches. It still provides color feedback rather than the numeric on-unit display that distinguishes the 211i Max. Blueair’s current plus-specific F3MAX+ filter page identifies the 311i+ Max and lists particle/carbon, AllergenBlock and SmokeBlock options. The standard package includes Particle & Carbon and a washable fabric pre-filter; specialty filters are separate.
Blueair lists the 311i+ Max Bundle as two 311i+ Max purifiers, two Particle & Carbon filters and two washable pre-filters. That is a quantity/package choice rather than a higher-capacity individual purifier: assess each included machine at its own 525-square-foot figure. The Bundle page also shows a subscription option with replacement filters, but those are not part of the one-time purifier-only package.
Move to the 211i Max only for a real 211i requirement
The 211i Max is a different machine, not the third capacity setting of the 311i line. Its product page lists a larger 674-square-foot 4.8-ACH area and its manual documents numerical PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 readings on the unit. It is also wider, taller, heavier and rated at 46 watts. Its own review records conflicts in CADR and sound wording; do not assume its 211-series filters or display behavior carries to either 311i model.
For a medium room under the 439-square-foot 4.8-ACH mark, the non-plus model may be enough. If the room needs the 525-square-foot rating but the 211i is oversized, the plus model is the distinct middle option. If the on-unit numeric reading is a must-have, compare the 211i Max instead of expecting either 311i panel to show a number. If body height, power, CADR or dB(A) limits are hard constraints, use the exact figures and unknowns in each long review; an unweighted dB range or unresolved CFM value should not be treated as a pass.
Read the individual Blue Pure 311i Max, Blue Pure 311i+ Max, and Blue Pure 211i Max reviews before checking a retailer listing. The main differences are the rated room basis, exact model suffix, sensor display and body—not a promise that a given unit will clean every connected room equally.
